G.J. Olney, Inc. manufactures equipment for the washing and cleaning of corn which has been an industry standard for many years. A typical cleaning line would feature a scalping/screening reel followed by a foam cleaner (also know as a froth washer).
The OLNEY Scalping Reel is manufactured with a 60 inch diameter reel having 5/8" diameter holes. The 5/8" hole provides an adequate open area allowing kernels to pass through. Kernels pass through the screen holes to a discharge conveyor placed under the cylinder (not provided). The scalped trash, such as husks and shank exit at the end of the cylinder.
In addition to removing the large pieces of husk and shank material from the cut corn, the scalping reel can be set up to remove silk and hollow or damaged kernels, as well. Configured in this manner, a trash conveyor is positioned inside the cylinder. The fine trash sticks to the solid unperforated areas of the screen and rotates to the top where it can be removed by the cleaning brush. The trash falls to the conveyor where it is discharged at the end of the reel. With the removal of a good deal of fine trash prior to your foam cleaning process, your washer will require less make-up water and put less BOD down the drain.
The OLNEY Foam Cleaner combines flotation cleaning and screening to provide the cleanest product. Our newest model machines have a complete open top construction with no structural frame-work above the product flow. The most notable feature is a new trash dewatering system. All floating trash is dewatered and screened on a static screen positioned at the side of the washer's flotation tank.
Product is dewatered and screened on a triple deck vibrating dewatering/screening shaker. The top scalping screen removes large pieces of cob and husk while the middle tri rod product screen removes fine pieces of broken kernels. Both the product screen and scalping screen is made in two sections for easy removal and cleaning.
An optional water reclaim reel can also be added. This reel screens solids from the washer's water system with a separate water pump. The reclaim reel keeps the foam cleaner's water cleaner, which will require less make-up water during production.
